2024 Alaska Road Trip (Day 45)
This journal posting chronicles Day 45 of a road trip to Alaska and back with Diane, Kenny and Deneen.
Day 45 - Tuesday August 6th
Today we drove from the Yukon Motel & Restaurant and RV Park in Teslin, Yukon to Tā Ch’ilā (Boya Lake) Provincial Park, British Columbia. We drove a total of 206 miles/332 km.
Sunrise at the Yukon Motel & Restaurant and RV Park was 5:44 AM and sunset at Boya Lake was 9:48 PM.
As we left Teslin, we crossed the old, and classic, Nisutlin Bay Bridge right next to the new modern concrete bridge they are building to replace it.
We continued back southeast on the Alaska Highway.
Upon reaching the junction with the Stewart-Cassiar Highway we turned right and started heading straight south. This highway is a road that we have not yet driven on this trip. Our first impression of the road is that it is not much bigger than a paved forest service road.
As we started driving down the Stewart-Cassiar Highway, and we noticed how narrow and unimproved it was, I was wondering about the 718 km we have to go on it before we reach the Yellowhead Highway.
Fairly soon we also noticed a very large burned area. But as we got closer to the campground the burned area went away.
Our campsite at Tā Ch’ilā (also known as Boya Lake) Provincial Park was very nice with lots of trees.
Dinner tonight was Diane’s very tasty Rainbow Noodle dish.
Below are a couple photos of a very glassy Boya Lake the evening with some of its islands in the background. Boya Lake is a beautiful lake with a white bottom and lots of small islands through it that make it a lot of fun to paddle through.
Deneen and Diane took a walk around the campground after dinner and Deneen found a new friend, I suspect her dogs are going to be jealous.
Our stay at Boya Lake had some of the best weather, with few bugs, of the trip so far. So we spent a little time relaxing outside after dinner.
