2024 Alaska Road Trip (Day 42)
This journal posting chronicles Day 42 of a road trip to Alaska and back with Diane, Kenny and Deneen.
Day 42 - Saturday August 3rd
Today was another travel day. We left Eagle Trail State Recreation Site and headed up to Tok, AK and turned right onto the Alaska Highway headed southeast towards Canada again. Our campground for the night was Lake Creek Provincial Park. We drove a total of 179 miles/288 km.
Sunrise at Eagle Trail State Recreation Site was 4:45 AM and sunset at Lake Creek Provincial Park was 10:56 PM.
As we headed south towards the border we sighted several wild horses grazing along the side of the road. This is our first sighting of wild horses.
Beautiful looking animals, and not disturbed by us driving by.
Snowball, Lucy, Pearsky and Deneen enjoying the drive.
Another stress free border crossing back into Canada. I’m just glad he did not ask us how much alcohol we had on board…
And here is a reminder that the highway between Tok, AK and Haines Junction, Yukon is some of the roughest and worst highway roads of the entire trip.
Once we reached Tok, AK and started south, we are spending a couple days traveling south on the same road that we previously took north.
The photo below is of the infamous rest stop where a sharp rock punctured one of the trailer tires on the way north, needless to say, we did not stop here again.
Lake Creek Provincial Park is the only campground we repeated on the way north and on the way south.
Below is a comparison of the cleanliness of the truck today versus when we went north 21 days ago.
Today we have my famous sausage stir-fry over rice noddles.
