2024 Alaska Road Trip (Day 51)
This journal posting chronicles Day 51 of a road trip to Alaska and back with Diane, Kenny and Deneen.
Day 51 - Monday August 12th
We made significant progress in our southward journey today. We left Beaumont Provincial Park heading southeast on the Yellowhead Highway until we reached Prince George were we turned south on the Cariboo Highway until we reached Lac La Hache Provincial Park, our campground for the night. We drove 270 miles/435 km.
The days continue to get shorter with sunrise at Beaumont Provincial Park at 5:53 AM and sunset at Lac La Hache Provincial Park at 8:33 PM.
The smoke had substantially cleared away from the campground overnight.
However, by the time we passed Prince George there was more smoke in the air again.
This part of the trip no longer has that feeling of driving remote roads all by ourselves. There is plenty of other traffic on the road with us.
There is an impressive set of high power transmission lines running south along with us next to the Cariboo Highway.
The Lac La Hache Provincial Park is a pleasant place to stay as long as you avoid the sites right next to the busy Cariboo Highway.
We had a nice dinner of Elk Meatloaf, sautéed carrots and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes was a little purple due to having used some purple potatoes in it.
