2024 Alaska Road Trip (Day 53)
This journal posting chronicles Day 53 of a road trip to Alaska and back with Diane, Kenny and Deneen.
Day 53 - Wednesday August 14th
In some ways, today is our last full day of the Great Alaska Road Trip. We had planned to stop at a Harvest Host in northern Washington state for our first night back in the US, but instead we decided to push on to get to our last campground a day early, Taidnapam Park, WA, where we will be meeting up with a bunch of cousins for our annual Camporama long weekend get together.
It is dubious if pushing on was a good decision or not, upon leaving Emory Creek Provincial Park, BC we drove 284 miles/456 km to reach Taidnapam Park, WA. Unfortunately, due to the miserable traffic driving through the Seattle area, this took us about 7 hours.
Before we left Diane took a photo from our campsite at Emory Creek looking towards the Fraser River.
Upon leaving Emory Creek Provincial Park, we continued down the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1). At Hope, BC this turned into a freeway which took us to Abbotsford, BC where we turned south on Sumas Way (Hwy 11) to cross the border back into the US.
Other than some narrow lanes, this was probably the easiest border crossing yet, and they have all been pretty easy.
After crossing the border we worked our way out to I-5 and then south through Seattle and Tacoma before exiting at Hwy 512 and then turning south again on Hwy 7 all the way to Morton. It was a nice, if somewhat curvy drive on Hwy 7.
In Morton we purchased fuel, where Snowball, Kenny, Pearsky, and Lucy all met a new friend.
Since we changed our plans, we were not able to get the site for tonight that we have at Taidnapam Park for the rest of the long weekend, but it was still a nice site.
It was sad that this was the last dinner we would have together as a group of just the four of us on this adventure to Alaska and back. But everyone is looking forward to seeing all the cousin’s tomorrow and Deneen will rejoin her husband and their dogs in their trailer when Tim arrives tomorrow.
We had pork fried rice for dinner.
