2024 Alaska Road Trip (Day 48)

This journal posting chronicles Day 48 of a road trip to Alaska and back with Diane, Kenny and Deneen.

Day 48 - Friday August 9th

Today we made tracks south on the Stewart-Cassiar Highway from Tā Ch’ilā (Boya Lake) Provincial Park to Kinaskan Lake Provincial Park. We drove a total of 175 miles/281 km.

Sunrise at Boya Lake was 5:42 AM and sunset at Kinaskan Lake was 9:36 PM.

Not long after leaving Boya Lake we stopped at Jade City to investigate their jade store. We don’t have any photos, but some of their jade carvings are very good, and priced to match.

There are a series of lakes along the road, including a large one name Dease Lake.

The visuals of the old metal bridges remain interesting.

Shortly after crossing the Stikine River, the road widened up a bit and we gained a yellow line back.

Below is a photo as we came down into Kinaskan Lake, where our campground for the night is.

Kinaskan Lake is a first come first serve campground and we didn’t show up as early as would have been best, but we still scored a nice lakeside site, if a bit narrow.

The lake was literally only a few feet from the back door of the trailer.

Today was my birthday, so we had New York steak for dinner and brownies for dessert. :-)
